Litchfield County is located in the northwestern corner of Connecticut. It is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. Litchfield county has a total area of 945 square miles of which approximately 97.5% is land 2.5% water. Litchfield County is roughly contiguous with the portion of the Appalachian mountain range known as the Litchfield Hills. As of the census of 2000, there were 182,193 people, 71,551 households, and 49,584 families residing in the county. The population density was 198 per square mile. |
